Haystack Rock, Cannon Beach, OR


We just got back from Haystack Rock in Cannon Beach, OR a couple of weeks ago. Has been a pretty busy time playing catch-up after a week of Boy Scout Summer Camp and then right into a week at the West Coast Wade Fair in Oregon! The kids enjoyed the beach! Last time we were there, Victoria was 2 and she is 7 now! We did find a few sand dollars and also we there at low tide and saw alot of snails and a few starfish and anemone.

Elks Present Scouts with a USA Flag


The Hoxie Elks presented the Hoxie Troop and Pack with a USA Flag on Flag Day. Some of the boys and parents were on-hand for the presentation. The flag now flies at the Bowen Scout House.

2 More Owls Get Their Beads


Two more members from the Owl Wood Badge Patrol received their beads at Summer Camp! Ed and Mike helped present Randy and Denny their beads after they had completed their tickets. Half the owl patrol are now completed. Shown are Ed (Troop Guide for the Owl Patol), Randy, Denny and Mike.

Quilt Raffle Ready to Start


The Scrappy Quilters from Hoxie have donated a beautiful quilt for the Parents of the Jamboree Boys to raffle off as a moneymaker.
The parents will in turn give all the proceeds to the boys from Troop #160 in Hoxie, KS that will attend the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Ft. AP Hill, VA in 2010. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5.
Shown are 4 of the 7 boys form our troop that are registered to attend the event. Each boy will cost approx $2,250 including uniforms.

Easter Sunday

Here are the kids in their finest on Easter Sunday.

Grandma Rucker once again made the girls their Easter dresses. The kids are sure growing up quickly this year!

Ed Receives the District Award of Merit!


Ed Rucker, Scoutmaster for Troop #160, charted by Hoxie Rotary, has received the District Award of Merit from the Tomahawk District. The district serves the youth of Decatur, Norton, Phillips, Sheridan, and Graham Counties. Ed is shown receiving the award from Chad Hammons, District Executive for Tomahawk District.


Each year, the award is presented to the top volunteer in the district based on their service to youth. Normally, the award is presented for service to youth in excess of five years.



Candidates must be nominated, not self-nominated.
A nominee must be a registered Scouter.
A nominee must have rendered noteworthy service to youth in Scouting, outside of Scouting, or both.
Consideration must be given to the nominee's Scouting position and the corresponding opportunity to render outstanding service beyond the expectations of that Scouting position.
The nominee's attitude toward and cooperation with the district, division, and/or council is to be taken into consideration.


Throughout the years, Ed has served the Hoxie scouts as Tiger Den Leader, Wolf Leader, Cubmaster, Troop Committee Member, Troop Committee Chair, Chartered Organization Rep. and Scoutmaster. On the District level he is Day Camp Administrator and District Commissioner for Tomahawk District. On the council level, he served as Troop Guide for Wood Badge Training and is also the 2nd Assistant Scoutmaster for the 2010 National Jamboree Coronado Area Council Contingent.


Ed has also received the Cub Scouter Award, Den Leader Award, Cubmaster Award and William D Boyce Award as well as completing Wood Badge. Ed is also a member of the Tribe of the Golden Eagle and Order of the Arrow.

Bev Broke Her Foot!


Yes some of you heard, Bev broke her foot! She has been in the cast for quite a few weeks and hopefully will get it off this week!
Yes it had to be Green as Elyssa's favorite color is John Deere Green!
